The Legion of Mary was established in 1960 at the Begur Parish, led by Fr C. Anthappa . The members of Comitium, including Brother Sundar Raj, Brother MTR Kruj, Brother HAL Rayappa, Brother Joseph Thammaiah (General Manager, KSRTC), and Brother Anthony Swamy (of Nirmala Engineering Company), initiated the establishment of the Legion of Mary. Its members, called Legionaries, engaged in various work of services and evangelization under the guidance of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Legion focus on prayer, formation and active outreach in the community. Legionaries participate in weekly meeting, pray the Rosary, and undertake various apostolic works, such as visiting the sick, elderly people in Begur.
The initial Legionaries from the Begur parish have played a crucial role in maintaining the vibrancy and engagement of the group. Their dedication and leadership have been fundamental in fostering a strong community spirit and ensuring the continuity of the group’s activities. These individuals are often celebrated for their commitment and service to the parish community.
